Lenawee Chiropractors: The First Line of Defense for Pain Management

Americans make around 280 million visits each year to chiropractors – almost twice as many as 15 to 20 years ago. About two-thirds of visits are for low-back pain, followed by head and neck pain and problems with extremities. Today, chiropractors are the third largest group of health care providers, after physicians and dentists, who treat patients directly. Spinal manipulation and/or chiropractic care is now recommended as the first line of defense in pain management by the American College of Physicians guideline on low back pain.

“It is becoming more and more common for our sports heroes to mention the value they place on chiropractic care. Doctors of Chiropractic are now regularly included as treating physicians at the Olympic games, the Pan American games and the World games. All 32 teams in the National Football League provide players with chiropractic care” (American Chiropractic Association).

“Chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which trained specialists (chiropractors) use their hands or a small instrument to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of this procedure, also known as spinal manipulation, is to improve spinal motion and improve your body’s physical function” (Mayo Clinic). Chiropractors may use a variety of techniques and devices and many offer related health and wellness services.

Lenawee County has over two dozen Doctors of Chiropractic. These five illustrate the range of missions and services.

  • North Main Chiropractic Wellness Center (Adrian). Dr. Fred Hauch: We are committed to enhancing the optimal health and wellness of our patients using the most modern treatments available. We believe strongly in our community and promote health and wellness throughout Lenawee and surrounding areas. We offer Cold Laser Therapy to reduce inflammation of affected nerves and tissues. We have a hydromassage bed. Special programs for athletes. We are proud to have been recognized by the community as “Best of Lenawee” in 2017 & 2018.
  • Crossroads Family Chiropractic Center (Blissfield). Dr. Karen Yape: Our mission is to improve the quality of your life. Health is so much more than not feeling pain. We believe good health and the ability to ENJOY life is something everyone deserves regardless of age and we strive to provide happy kids and a healthy community.
  • Raymond L. Garno Chiropractor (Adrian). Dr. Raymond L. Garno: our clinic is different because along with chiropractic adjustments to help decrease pain, we perform trigger point muscle therapy to treat tissues surrounding an injury and increase range of motion. We counsel our patients on rehabilitation exercises to keep pain from returning.
  • Garza Chiropractic (Adrian). Dr. Oliver Garza: Dr. Garza practices “active care” where patients get weekly chiropractic adjustments to stay ahead of potential problems. These can be musculoskeletal (low back pain) or even a visceral dysfunction (migraines). Like brushing your teeth to prevent cavities, weekly adjustments can be a strong force in the fight to be well.
  • Suydam Chiropractic and Nutritional Wellness (Adrian). Tayler Suydam: In addition to chiropractic adjustments for adults, we provide pediatric consultation, nutritional counseling and specialize in treating children and pregnant women. Our diverse experience helps maintain and improve health.
