Carpenter Farms is owned and operated by Matt and Kelly Carpenter, along with their children Jake and Abby. Our farm started back in 1912, making Jake and Abby the fifth generation to live and work on the farm. The home farm is located just outside of Adrian, Michigan and consists of 189 acres. We farm cash crops, have a beef cow/calf operation, operate a fall agri-tourism business, and recently added a spring greenhouse business. We started our first pumpkin crop in 1993 which consisted of just a quarter acre of pumpkins sold on the honor system. In 2008, we expanded to become a seasonal agri-tourism business that offered pumpkins along with fun family-orientated activities. 2016 was another year of expansion for us as we added a new barn show room as well as a spring greenhouse business. We now grow about 35 acres of over 60 different varieties of pumpkins, squash, and gourds. Currently our fall activities include a corn maze, hayrides, friendly barnyard buddies, a straw pit, multiple corn boxes, a straw maze, and produce to cover all of your fall decorating and carving needs. In the spring, we are open for flower sales with hanging baskets, bedding plants, perennials, vegetables, patio pots, and custom planting of pots and other containers. In the fall of 2013, our farm gained the Michigan Agricultural Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) verification in three different systems: homestead, cropping, and livestock. MAEAP is a voluntary program that allows farms to get the stamp of being environmentally verified meaning that the farm is taking a proactive approach in pollution prevention and complying with state and federal environmental regulations.
